What maintenance is required when hiring rigging equipment?
All rigging equipment must be inspected and serviced before first use and every 6 to 12 months thereafter, depending on the type of equipment, how frequently it is used and in what conditions. Lifting equipment must pass a LOLER inspection to ensure it’s safe for use, while electrical equipment should be PAT tested for electrical safety. General work equipment must comply with PUWER regulations, confirming that it’s suitable for it’s intended use, well-maintained, and safe to operate.
Does PPE require inspection in the UK?
Yes, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used in the UK must be reguarly inspected by law under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 and depending on use, the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998. The inspections should be carried out by a competent person every six months.
